Schlagle Virtual Class Meetings

Schlagle Virtual Class Meetings

April 25, 2020

To the students, parents, and community stakeholders of F.L. Schlagle High School:

As senior class administrator, I want to inform you of an event that occurred during our senior class meeting on Friday, April 24, 2020. During these meetings, information is shared regarding important tasks that need to be completed in order for students to graduate on-track and on-time.

Our meetings are conducted virtually through the Zoom platform, and we work to ensure that students are safeguarded in this virtual space by password protecting the meetings, monitoring attendees, and removing students from the platform if their behavior becomes inappropriate or unacceptable at any time. Despite our best safeguarding, I regret to inform you that inappropriate images were shared by an unknown meeting participant. We intervened immediately and closed the inappropriate images to prevent further disruption.

Safety remains our top priority, even in this new virtual space. I want to reassure you that an investigation into this incident remains ongoing, and we hope to determine which individual or individuals are responsible for this breech of conduct.

Further, we are working together with district administration and our technology department to ensure the virtual safety of our students. Until then, we will continue to explore other options to communicate. The next class meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 1, 2020 at 3:30pm.

Because safety is our top priority, I want to share best practices for everyone to follow as we continue to teach and learn in a virtual world:

  • Protect your privacy. Do not share log-in information, passwords, or e-mail account information with one another.
  • Protect your identity. Do not impersonate another student or adult online by changing your username on an e-mail account in order to appear as someone other than yourself.
  • Protect our school community. Do not share screens or invitations to join virtual meetings with anyone. All information will be shared via Google Classroom.

Again, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for yesterday’s incident. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me as we move forward.

Respectfully,
Jean Carter, Assistant Principal
